If you’re thinking of switching broadband providers, Plusnet is one of the cheapest broadband providers in the UK. But this doesn’t mean a compromise on service. Check out the best broadband deals from Plusnet today.

Based in Yorkshire, Plusnet has been providing ‘straightforward broadband at straightforward prices’ since 1997.

It can provide broadband speeds of up to 900Mbps with its Full Fibre package. Its broadband deals are essentially broadband only, with the company embracing the digital age and moving customers away from reliance on landlines.

Similarly, Plusnet has moved away from providing SIM only deals, instead recommending EE mobile deals to its customers.

So, with the focus entirely on fibre broadband, let’s see how Plusnet stacks up.

Why should I choose Plusnet broadband?

If you’re looking for pure fibre broadband without the trappings of landline reliance, Plusnet is a great choice. Not only is it among the cheaper providers around, it also has multi-award-winning customer service.

Most recently, it won Large Broadband Provider of the Year 2023 at the Uswitch Awards. It also received the gong for Most Reliable Broadband Provider at the Choose Broadband Awards 2023 for the second year running.

Its two main packages are Full Fibre and Fibre. With top speeds of 900Mbps and 66Mbps respectively, they both start at a very reasonable £24.99 a month. At the time of writing, you can also bag a £100 reward card with certain packages too.

As such, Plusnet is a great choice if you’re thinking about switching broadband providers to a company that keeps it simple, providing a reliable service without the need for bells and whistles.

Does Plusnet provide broadband only deals?

It certainly does. As it boasts on its website, ‘No landline, no fluff’.

At the time of writing, you can get:

  • Full Fibre, its Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) option; or
  • Fibre, which is its Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) option.

To find out more about how this works, read about how you can get broadband without a landline.

It’s worth noting that the Full Fibre deal won’t be available for all customers. This will be down to your postcode area, although Plusnet is planning on rolling out its ultrafast broadband to more locations over time.

Is landline included in my Plusnet broadband deal?

While call plans are available from Plusnet, it doesn’t include a landline in its Fibre or Full Fibre packages. Instead, it wants to move its customers onto digital phone solutions.

Customers with pre-existing landlines still have access to features such as voicemail, last caller and caller waiting.

What will happen to my landline number if I get a Plusnet broadband deal?

As mentioned, Plusnet doesn’t provide broadband deals with a landline. While it did previously try to keep your existing number if you switched to a broadband deal with landline, it doesn’t provide this any more. As such, you’re likely to lose access to your home phone number.

How long are Plusnet broadband contracts for?

Plusnet’s Fibre and Full Fibre broadband-only contracts are for 24 months, subject to credit checks and availability.

How do I get Plusnet broadband if I’m moving house?

How do I switch to Plusnet broadband?

If you’re looking to switch to Plusnet broadband from the Openreach network, Plusnet can organise cancelling your current contract for you. This is good news as you won’t need an awkward conversation with your existing broadband provider, where they’ll no doubt try to persuade you to stay with them.

If you have ADSL broadband with a landline, there’s a good chance you’re on the Openreach network.

If you’re with another cable provider like Virgin Media, or a provider not on the Openreach network, you’ll have to cancel yourself, usually giving 30 days’ notice. The end date should be the same as your start date with Plusnet.

Can I switch to Plusnet broadband for free?

Usually you’ll have to pay a fee for terminating your contract early with your existing provider. However, you’re likely to be able to end your contract without penalty if any of the following apply:

  • You’re no longer in your minimum contract period
  • Your download speeds are lower than your provider advertised
  • Your prices go up within the agreed contract period

In these cases, you have 30 days from when you were notified of the price rise to cancel your contract. You should then be able to get out of your contract and make the switch without penalty.

How do I get Plusnet mobile broadband?

Plusnet doesn’t offer its own mobile broadband packages. It has partnered with EE, so recommends EE mobile broadband to its customers.
