NHS staff and healthcare workers, along with the emergency services and armed forces, are eligible for discounts. These include money off food shopping, clothing and trips out as well as cashback with some companies and retailers.
However, some companies offer special discounts to those working in certain professions like the NHS and armed forces.
Here’s a round up of how to qualify for some of these discounts and the cards you may need to get them. This may mean showing your valid work ID or having a special card, like a Blue Light card.
Blue Light card
Having a Blue Light card entitles you to around 15,000 discounts on everything from food shopping to clothing and cinema tickets.
It costs £4.99 for two years and there’s a long list of those who can qualify for one. This includes anyone working for the NHS, Fire Service, HM Prison Service, Royal Navy and St. John Ambulance. You can find a full list on the website.
Some discounts may only be available on certain days or may be unable to be used with special priced menus.
In some cases, you can show your Blue Light card to get the discount. But with others, you need to get a code from the Blue Light website first.
Other ways NHS, healthcare workers and the armed forces can get discounts

You may also be able to apply for a free Ode card. Those eligible include charity workers, carers, teachers and NHS workers. This is a prepaid card, so you will need to top it up before using it for payment.
